Special Events

Tech Wars Competition

Tech Wars brings middle and high school students from all 24 of the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming (GLOW) region’s school districts together in teams to demonstrate their technical expertise through innovative, mind-expanding competitions.

Competitors (students) choose from close to 30 available competitions to showcase – and put to the test – some basic and some extremely intricate and innovative technology. Regardless of the event, all the students enjoy the opportunity to see their hard work come to fruition. Tech Wars event details, rules and competition descriptions are available at techwarsgccny.org.

Educational support and event coordination for Tech Wars come from the dedication, state-of-the art facilities and quality instruction in the GLOW region schools. Tech Wars is also proudly sponsored and hosted by Genesee Community College and its ACE (Accelerated College Enrollment) programs. The ACE team and the entire GCC community work diligently to provide a safe and appropriately equipped environment to showcase the students’ technological skills and creativity.

Virtual Business

Students at Virtual Business

Virtual Business is comprised of students from various GLOW Region high schools who are enrolled in economics, business, or entrepreneurship courses in their high school. Teachers and students have taken their instruction and studies one step further in studying all the elements of entrepreneurship. Students create businesses from concept to inception. All participants come together on campus in November to pitch their ideas and introduce their business concepts to one another at the Virtual Business Professional Day. Businesses begin virtual trading amongst each other in December and continue through April. The culminating Trade Fair in March or April, also hosted at GCC by the Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) Programs, is a way for students to showcase and “sell” their products. The college and greater community are invited to attend and make purchases with virtual dollars. Students compete for best booth; best salesmanship and marketing; most items sold; and largest dollar amount raised at the event.
