Dr. Craig Lamb

Dr. Craig Lamb began his tenure as the fifth president of Genesee Community College in 2024, bringing nearly two decades of experience within the State University of New York (SUNY) system. His career spans leadership roles at SUNY Empire State University, SUNY Plattsburgh, and the University of Connecticut, where he led initiatives in academic affairs, accreditation, student support services, and workforce development.

A proud first-generation college graduate, Dr. Lamb is deeply committed to the transformative power of education. He is a passionate advocate for the mission of community colleges to deliver high-quality, affordable, and accessible learning opportunities—especially for students historically underrepresented in higher education. His presidency is defined by a student-centered approach that prioritizes academic excellence, equity, and institutional innovation.

Dr. Lamb is focused on strengthening GCC’s role as a regional hub for education, economic development, and community engagement. His collaborative leadership style emphasizes shared governance, inclusivity, and a commitment to long-term sustainability.

Dr. Lamb holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany (SUNY), a Master of Science in College and Agency Counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from St. Lawrence University.

What is a presidential inauguration?

The inauguration is a formal ceremony celebrating the appointment of a new college president. It is a momentous occasion that honors the institution’s traditions while marking the beginning of a new chapter in leadership.

When and where will the inauguration take place?

The inauguration ceremony will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 in the Stuart Steiner Theatre. This ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Is the inauguration open to the public?

Yes, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends are invited to attend the ceremony. It is a free, general admission event.

Is RSVP required to attend the inauguration ceremony?

Members of the campus community and public that plan to attend are asked to RSVP to assist in our planning.

What is the proper attire?

Attire depends on your role at the ceremony.

Processional participants will need to wear their regalia attire for the ceremony.  These participants may change for the reception to ensure comfort.

All others are recommended to dress business casual, and if desired, showcase blue and yellow to show cougar spirit.

What if I do not have regalia?

The deadline for regalia rental is Friday, August 29.  For further information, please contact bookstore@genesee.edu 

Is the event accessible?

Yes, the event is accessible with accessible parking, wheelchair accessible seating, and accessible restrooms. A sign language interpreter will also be available. For specific needs, please contact e-mail inauguration@genesee.edu.

Will classes be held on the day of the ceremony?

Yes, classes will be held as scheduled and most campus offices will remain open. However, faculty are encouraged to bring their classes to attend the ceremony. Staff may attend with supervisor approval. Campus Centers may close for staff to attend.

Do media outlets need a press pass?

No, members of the press are welcome, and no press pass is needed.
