Dear Prospective Graduate:
Congratulations! Commencement will be here before you know it! We cordially invite you to participate in the 2022 commencement ceremony on May 21. This event celebrates the diligent effort put forth throughout your time here at GCC. We hope you will make plans to participate in the ceremony!
Commencement will feature keynote speaker, Daniel P. Ireland, GCC Alumnus and President of United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY.
Dan completed his Associate Degree in Nursing from Genesee Community College in 1992, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from SUNY Brockport in 1994 and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997. He is also a member of the Leadership Genesee Class of 2006 and recipient of Buffalo First’s 40 Under 40 award in 2007. In January 2013, he became Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders. Dan was also named to 2018's roster of Health Care Champions, by Buffalo Business First, signifying his high levels of accomplishments within the field in Western New York. Dan continues his commitment to lifelong learning as he is enrolled in the Doctorate of Healthcare Administration program at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Entering his 32nd year at United Memorial, Mr. Ireland spent much of his clinical career in emergency medicine, clinical informatics, quality and Clinical leadership roles. In 2010, Dan was promoted to Vice President of Operations/Chief Operating Officer. As Vice President of Operations, he was responsible for oversight and project management of the surgical and front entry construction project, a major Maternity unit renovation, and the revitalization of the Jerome Center Diagnostics facility. In November 2013, he was promoted to President, leading United Memorial through its merger with Rochester Regional Health in 2015 and through its response to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
Commencement will be held in the Genesee Community College Richard C. Call Arena (RCCA) at the Batavia Campus on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Line-up will begin promptly at 12:00 pm in the north end of the RCCA. The ceremony will be approximately one hour and thirty minutes in length.
In addition to filing the Degree Application, students participating in the ceremony must purchase the Commencement Package online or in-person at the GCC Barnes & Noble Bookstore for $54.99. Your purchase includes cap, gown, tassel, and diploma cover. Students may purchase the Commencement Package online with a credit card (https://genesee.shopoakhalli.com) and have it shipped to the bookstore for in-person pick up. Here are the available options:

Tickets will be available beginning April 25, 2022. Each graduate will receive five (5) tickets for guests to attend the ceremony in the RCCA. Additional tickets are not available. You will receive an email to your GCC email address that will contain instructions on how to obtain your electronic tickets. Ticketed guests will find open seating in the Richard C. Call Arena. If accessible seating is required for you or a guest, please contact the office of Student Engagement & Inclusion at email@example.com. In addition, the ceremony will be streamed live on the GCC website (http://www.genesee.edu/events/commencement/).
Commencement rehearsal will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:00 am in the RCCA. While rehearsal is not mandatory, it will provide an opportunity to walk through the ceremony and to ensure correct pronunciation of your name. Rehearsal will take about an hour and a half. Students should arrive to the north end of the RCCA by 10:00 am at which time you will be given further instructions.
The deadline to purchase and pick up your Commencement Package and five (5) Commencement tickets will be Friday, May 13, 2022. Your diploma cover will be presented to you at the commencement ceremony as you cross the stage. Paper diplomas will be sent to your home address via mail and should arrive around August 1, 2022.
