GCC’s Web Design degree program offers a unique curriculum that emphasizes hands-on experience with the latest technology and exposure to emerging trends. You will learn:

You will also participate in a two-tiered cooperative experience, where you will first simulate working for a client, and then be assigned a true business to work with. GCC Web Design students have worked with DeZine Zone, Nunda Farm Service, Sungard Higher Education, Wahl Studios, Paychex, and other affiliates through this program. Through this opportunity, you may find your work implemented by the client, or may be offered a professional position.

Associate In Applied Science (AAS)

AAS Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)

  1. Apply critical thinking skills required to function effectively in the web design industry.
  2. Demonstrate adequate preparation for career development and/or baccalaureate degree program success through the acquisition of a solid foundation in the web development field.
  3. Employ proficient written and oral communication skills, including the appropriate uses of technology.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of:
    1. basic business functions and how they interact in the business environment.
    2. basic theories and techniques used to ensure successful business outcomes of establishing a presence on the internet.
    3. today’s interdependent global marketplace and the impact on business.
  5. Compare and contrast different technologies used to meet users’ requirements when creating web pages, applets and scripts, and interconnect network applications.
  6. Use interpersonal communication skills necessary for effective customer service and teamwork.

Certificate (CERT)

Upon successful completion of the certificate, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills required to successfully design and implement a web site.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to analyze, identify and define the technology required to build and implement a web site.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of artistic and design components that are used in the creation of a web site.
  4. Utilize and apply the technical, ethical and interpersonal skills needed to function in a cooperative environment.

Transfer Opportunities

Starting at GCC saves many students and their families thousands of dollars in tuition. With an A.S. or A.A. degree you will be able to seamlessly transfer within the SUNY network of 64 college and universities as well as to many 4-year private institutions. GCC’s A.S. and A.A. programs were developed as part of the SUNY seamless transfer initiative allowing students to complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree as a freshman and a sophomore at a community college, then seamlessly transfer to a SUNY four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree. Please reference the SUNY Transfer Pathways for degree programs to learn about any campus specific requirements. If you are planning to transfer to a 4-year private institution you should work with our Transfer Services office to learn about possible articulation agreements and pathways that exist for many or our degree programs. Some GCC A.A.S. programs also have transfer opportunities.
