GCC’s Digital Art program emphasizes the role of computer technology in creative expression. Courses will develop your skills in animation, digital video, graphic design and web design, as well as more traditional techniques such as photography and drawing. You will also gain experience in major graphic design software including Photoshop and Illustrator.

You will have access to GCC’s Digital Art Lab featuring state of the art Mac Computers and industry-standard software for illustration, photo editing, page layout, animation, website design and more. Internship opportunities with local businesses and the student design group AppleCore offers hands-on experience to supplement your coursework.

  1. Articulate basic elements of visual theory.
  2. Navigate the Macintosh operating system.
  3. Use a print shop to achieve professional output.
  4. Employ current major design software.
  5. Articulate basic knowledge of multimedia (animation, video editing, special effects, etc.).
  6. Respond to the various needs of clients in digital arts and related fields.
  7. Develop a portfolio of original work (print, web, etc.) that demonstrates the student’s creative abilities.

Transfer Opportunities

Starting at GCC saves many students and their families thousands of dollars in tuition. With an A.S. or A.A. degree you will be able to seamlessly transfer within the SUNY network of 64 college and universities as well as to many 4-year private institutions. GCC’s A.S. and A.A. programs were developed as part of the SUNY seamless transfer initiative allowing students to complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree as a freshman and a sophomore at a community college, then seamlessly transfer to a SUNY four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree. Please reference the SUNY Transfer Pathways for degree programs to learn about any campus specific requirements. If you are planning to transfer to a 4-year private institution you should work with our Transfer Services office to learn about possible articulation agreements and pathways that exist for many or our degree programs. Some GCC A.A.S. programs also have transfer opportunities.
