Vet Radiology & Dentistry

Introduces the basic principles for the understanding and production of diagnostic imaging including radiographic imaging, MRI and ultrasound. Introduces proper dental techniques and the recognition of species specific normal and abnormal dental conditions. Prerequisite: VET 201, VET 234, VET LB4, VET 245, VETLB5, VET 246, VET LB6 each with a grade of “C” or higher. Corequisite: VET 268, VET LB7, VET LB8.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe radiographic quality control measures and recommended maintenance protocols for the radiographic equipment.
2. Analyze radiographic image quality.
3. Describe recommended radiation safety measures.
4. Devise a procedure for creating a radiographic technique chart.
5. Describe procedures for producing quality diagnostic imaging.
6. Describe the use of ultrasonography, endoscopy, MRI, or any other imaging procedures.
7. Describe the modifications of diagnostic imaging techniques as they apply to mice, rats, guinea pigs, lizards or amphibians.
8. Identify normal dental anatomy and pathology.
9. Explain how pathological conditions will affect the overall health of the patient.
10. Create client education instructions regarding home care for the patient.
11. Describe the procedures involved in floating equine teeth, including the operation of appropriate dental equipment and restraint of the patient.
12. Explain the science involved with producing diagnostic images.
