Lab for RCP114
RCPLB2 is the application of didactic instruction for RCP114 and a required co-requisite. Skills and performance in RCPLB2 are assessed as a component of RCP114 and therefore must be successfully completed in addition to all the requirements for RCP114. Prerequisite or corequisite: BIO153 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher. Prerequisites: RCP101, RCPLB1 and RCP103 each with a grade of ‘C’ or higher. Corequisite: RCP114

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Set up variety of mechanical ventilators with their appropriate circuitry and hardware
2. Relate graphics, scalars and data as presented on ventilator screens to specific patient diagnosis and clinical scenarios
3. Connect patient to the ventilator with appropriate settings and alarm parameters with time sensitivity to ensure patient safety.
4. Troubleshoot alarm situations as presented on the ventilator with time sensitivity to follow safe practices.
5. Perform intubation with time sensitivity to promote life-sustaining technique.
6. Perform patient assessment with identification of vital signs for corrective action on the vent (endotracheal tube placement, end tidal carbon dioxide, etc.)
7. Select appropriate airway clearance techniques as defined by patient’s needs.
8. Identify equipment used for non-invasive ventilation.
9. Collect blood gas sample.
