Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care
Explores neonatal and pediatric respiratory care beginning with the developmental changes in utero, the transition at birth, and the continuing development thereafter. Examines the risks and problems associated with these developments and the procedures and rationales for delivering the appropriate respiratory care. Reviews specific neonatal and pediatric disease states, and their treatment relative to respiratory care. Prerequisite: RCP116, RCP 117, and RCP 118 each with a grade of ‘C’ or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe fetal lung development from conception to birth.
2. Describe the physiologies changes experienced in transition from in utero to extra in ferine life.
3. Identify a variety of risks associated with maternal health and behavior.
4. Describe a variety of risks identified through re-natal testing.
5. Conduct an infant respiratory assessment.
6. Identifying infant respiratory distress and respond with appropriate interventions.
7. Interpret infant radiographic images correctly.
8. Identify the various methods of noninvasive monitoring.
9. Identify indications and contraindications for O2 therapy administration.
10. Administer surfactant replacement therapy.
11. Differentiate between invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation for the neonate and pediatric patients.
12. Identify a variety of specialized modes of ventilations and describe their associated techniques.
13. Design a variety of treatment protocols to address various respiratory diseases and disorders.
