Respiratory Pharmacology
Introduces general and specific respiratory pharmacological principles, including drug calculations, the autonomic nervous system, and delivery methods. Explores drugs used in the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other pulmonary disorders. Prerequisites RCP114 and RCP115 with a C or better Lecture: 1 hr.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Compare and contrast normal physiology of the lung with one that is unhealthy.
2. Describe how various drugs are absorbed and distributed when applying various delivery systems.
3. Determine the optimal system for delivery of drug treatment based on a patient’s needs.
4. Identify the drugs commonly used in Respiratory Care and describe their interaction with neuro transmitters and receptors.
5. Explain how bronchodilators teat respiratory illness with attention to their indications.
6. Monitor the patient’s response to bronchodilators.
7. Explain how various mechanisms of action treat respiratory illness with attention to their indications.
8. Explain inhaled corticosteroids with attention to associated health effects.
