Child Development
This course reviews human cognitive, psychosocial, and physical/motor development from conception through pre-adolescence. Effects of the interaction of heredity and environment are considered, with special emphasis upon the latter. Prerequisite: PSY 104.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Analyze an empirical journal article found in a reputable psychological journal.
2. Identify examples of the interaction of nature and nurture related to the major areas of development (physical/motor, psychosocial and cognitive).
3. Apply the principle, “prevention is more effective than later rehabilitation” to various stages of childhood.
4. Apply the principle, “multiple causation influences all aspects of development” to various stages of childhood.
5. Identify and describe the key concepts of major theories of childhood.
6. Identify significant changes in each of the following areas of development (physical/ motor, psychosocial, cognitive) as they occur in each of the major stages of child development.
7. Discuss the major stages of prenatal development.
8. Discuss a change in the major domains (physical/ motor, psychosocial, and cognitive) that children will face as they transition to adolescence.
9. Discuss psychological changes that adolescents experience as they approach early adulthood.
