Ethics
Engages in dialog to work toward a definition of good and evil as expressions of society’s evolving values. Examines a variety of controversial moral issues from daily experience and explains the contradictory solutions people reach by appealing to different philosophical premises.

1. Identify major philosophers and describe their positions regarding ethics
2. Use common ethics terminology appropriately
3. Distinguish among foundational ethics concepts
4. Contextualize (e.g. culturally, socially, historically) the ethics positions of a variety of philosophers
5. Critique ethics arguments in various texts
6. Assess how popular culture contains and reflects theories from philosophy
7. Evaluate the use of some ethics precepts in personal or professional contexts
8. Discuss how selected ethics ideas apply to a professional field of interest (e.g. social justice, theatre, nursing, fine arts, criminal justice, human services, etc.)
