Outdoor Education

Introduces students to the health concepts and benefits of outdoor activities, as well as the teaching of outdoor activities. Focuses on lifelong wellness programs that fit the individual’s needs, interests, abilities, and goals. Includes a variety of activities and locales.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Define the health benefits of outdoor activities as they pertain to the five components of Health-Related Fitness.
2. Identify the basic safety precautions to be mindful of when participating in outdoor activities.
3. Identify components (knowledge, etiquette, skills, and safety) of outdoor activities.
4. Apply skills of compass use for outdoor activities such as hiking, orienteering, or geocaching.
5. Utilize basic teaching strategies to implement an outdoor games lesson.
