Generalist Practice Skills
Incorporates theory, evidence-based practices, and best practice standards for paraprofessional human services work in areas of client prevention, intake, interviewing, assessment, treatment, discharge, recovery, follow-up, crisis and wellness. Students will explore micro, macro and mezzo level systems that affect case management and care coordination including but not limited to policy and procedure, legal and ethical guidelines, and cultural awareness. Prerequisite: HUS 101 and PSY 202

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify theories and evidence-based practices related to client need.
2. Indicate best practice standards required for quality client care.
3. Match client problem to appropriate level of community service care.
4. Discuss barriers related to client care.
5. Demonstrate appropriate use of helping skills during mock clinical interviews.
6. Formulate appropriate clinical documentation (assessments, evaluations, treatment plans, case notes, referrals, etc.).
7. Present case information appropriately to model collaborating with clients and/or professionals (through mock in-class meetings, intake, case conference, r-number, etc.).
8. Discuss cultural awareness (by examining one’s cultural intelligence, cultural competence, cultural humility, power differences related to client care, etc.).
9. Discuss methods for evaluating client success and helper effectiveness.
