Interpersonal Skills and Relationships
An experiential approach to everyday intrapersonal and interpersonal processes. Specific attention is given to observation, practice, and discussion of such topics as self-disclosure, trust, verbal and nonverbal expression of feelings, listening skills, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, stress management, and the value of cultivating diverse relationships. Highlights ways in which our own intersecting identities shape our perspectives and experiences.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe the value of interpersonal relationships and skills.
2. Explain the skills necessary for interpersonal effectiveness.
3. Articulate the effects of self-concept and self-esteem on relationships with others.
4. Discuss the eight factors that distort the accuracy of interpersonal perception.
5. Describe five human differences that influence communication.
6. Apply appropriate conflict management skills.
7. Describe the strategies used to initiate, escalate, and maintain relationships.
8. Demonstrate the skills necessary to participate in the deliberation of ideas through reasoned inquiry that seeks new information and considers multiple viewpoints.
9. Demonstrate the skills necessary to participate in the ethical practice of advocacy or dissent through dialogue that constructively attends to points of conflict.
10. Utilize a range of materials (personal assessments, assignments, readings, etc.) to construct an argument on various assigned topics.
11. Revise and improve oral communication with the use of technology (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.).
