Electricity & Electronics
This course introduces the students to basic principles of electricity and electronics with an emphasis on their use in technical applications. The student will build and test electrical circuits, learn electric symbology, read and draw schematics, measure voltage, current, resistance, and capacitance using a multimeter, construct electric and electronic circuits, and be introduced to various motor types and motor controls. Semiconductors and solid state electronics are explored.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify the function of components and label all components of an electrical system by reading a schematic diagram.
2. Use electrical testing instruments to measure various electrical quantities such as voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, and power
3. Develop the capabilities to read and draw schematics of electrical components and circuits
4. Construct simple circuits using common hand tools including a soldering iron.
5. Calculate quantities of unknowns such as current, voltage, resistance and power in AC and DC circuits
6. Evaluate and compare the construction and performance characteristics of AC and DC motors.
7. Predict operational characteristics for power sources, electrical loads and switching devices
8. Develop capabilities to troubleshoot defective electrical circuits and components.
* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Institutional Research and Asse
