Network Fundamentals

Explores computer networks using the OSI and TCP models, network protocols, IP, Ethernet, network hardware, media and application services. Uses a combination of lectures and hands-on experiences to analyze protocols, network operations, cabling, routers and switches. Prerequisite: Completion of the Genesee Community College math proficiency.

1. Identify the devices and services that are used to support communications across an Internetwork.
2. Describe the protocols provided by the reference models (OSI, TCP/IP), with regard to their respective layers.
3. Describe the services provided by the reference models (OSI, TCP/IP), with regard to their respective layers.
4. Analyze the operations and features of the transport layer.
5. Analyze the operations and features of the network layer.
6. Convert numbers from binary to decimal and vice versa, for address manipulation.
