Criminal Procedure Law
Familiarizes students with the basic principles of criminal procedure law. Examines the total criminal process from accusation through final appeal. Identifies the court structure and its participants. Studies constitutional and New York procedural law, including warrants, searches, stops, interrogations, arrests, and suspect identifications. Prerequisite: CRJ 101 or PLG114.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Explain the importance that criminal procedure law plays in the criminal justice system.
2. Analyze scenarios for potential Constitutional violations using legal analysis (state the legal issues, identify and analyze legal cases and reasoning, assess those cases for biases, and state your well reasoned legal conclusions.)
3. Distinguish among the levels of proof within the Criminal Justice System (mere suspicion, reasonable suspicion, probable cause, beyond a reasonable doubt).
4. Examine the impact that the Exclusionary Rule, along with the Fruit of the Poisonous Tree Doctrine (and their respective exceptions) has on the criminal justice system.
5. Describe the various levels of courts within the duel court system of the United States.
6. Analyze a Supreme Court case to determine its significance in the court system.
7. Critique a Supreme Court case.
8. Describe the various stages in the criminal justice process.
9. Prepare a motion to suppress evidence utilizing Supreme Court Precedent.
10. Describe the role that attorneys play in the court process.
11. Assess the role of the jury within the criminal justice system.
12. Communicate effectively in a professional setting.
