PVO101 - Intro to Solar Electric
Catalog Description: Intro to Solar Electric covers the fundamentals of solar energy collectors including various components, system architectures, and applications for photovoltaic systems. Topics include basic electricity and electrical design characteristics such as wiring, overcurrent protection, and grounding; a detailed look at module and inverter specifications and characteristics; mounting methods for various roof structures and ground-mounts; and an introduction to safely and effectively commissioning grid-direct systems.
PVO102 - Solar Design and Installation
Catalog Description: Solar Design & Installation covers site analysis and load analysis for solar electric systems including application factors such as climate and orientation for stand-alone and grid-tied systems. Topics include site evaluation, load analysis, solar radiation fundamentals, energy efficiency, battery installation, and system sizing.
PVO103 - Solar Codes and Standards
Catalog Description: Solar Codes & Standards provides a thorough study of the National Electric Codes (NEC) as applied to the installation and maintenance of solar electric grid-tied and stand-alone systems and advanced troubleshooting techniques. Topics will include: wire coding, types, gauge, sizing, ampacity and voltage limitations, conduit, weatherproofing, grounding, high voltage and low voltage rapid shut-downs. Electrical safety is reinforced and emphasized. Students will be familiarized with the national solar organizations and standard setting agencies including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
PVO104 - Solar Business and Finance
Catalog Description: Solar Business and Finance is a comprehensive examination and orientation to working in the solar electric / photovoltaic industry. Topics will include marketing and sales; electricity rates, savings, and incentive structures; financial cost benefit analysis and financing options. Orientation and preparation for industry certifications in the Solar industry are provided.
