THE221 - Children's Theatre
Catalog Description: Participation in auditions, rehearsals, and production of a Children's Theatre play. Includes reading, analysis, and interpretation of children's theatre literature. Play performed before children in one of several possible settings, e.g., at the College, area schools, recreational sites, or hospital. One lecture hour, four laboratory hours.
Lecture: 1 hrs.
Lab: 4 hrs.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
At the successful completion of the course, based upon papers, class participation, journaling, and performances, students will be able to:
1.* Analyze in a two to three page paper a character from the Children's Theatre script, using specified criteria.
2.Analyze in writing and/or verbally one of the design aspects (lighting, costuming, scenic, make-up) of the Children's Theatre script, using specified criteria.
3.Identify at least five of the crucial elements of the production process by participating in production meetings and maintaining a written and/or visual record of the production process.
4.Participate according to established criteria in weekly rehearsals and be able to identify at least five components of the rehearsal process.
5.Participate according to established criteria in at least two performances and be able to identify at least five of the dynamics of live Children's Theatre performances.
*This course objective has been identified as student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the College's Comprehensive assessment plan. All faculty teaching this course must collect: required data (see Assessing Student Learning Outcomes form) and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Assessment and Special Project.
