THE210 - Introduction to Theatrical Design

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: Introduces theories and practices of theatrical design. Emphasizes scene design, property design, costume and/or makeup design, lighting design, and design collaboration skills. One lecture, four lab hours. Prerequisite: THE 106.

Lecture: 1 hrs.

Lab: 4 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
At the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

1.Identify and discuss, in writing, at least 6 of the design elements of a typical play.
2.Select one aspect of the design process and create functional design drawings and/or ground plans for a production.
3.Make viable contributions, as documented by a performance rubric, to the design process by working with others in a production team.
4. Identify, in writing, a minimum of five of the roles and functions of the various members of the design team.*

* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
