Office Technology/Secretarial Courses:
OFT210 - Medical Transcription
Catalog Description: Builds the skills necessary to produce accurate medical records and correspondence from dictated materials. Emphasizes punctuation, spelling, grammar, medical vocabulary, and efficiency. Prerequisites: OFT116 and OFT101.
Lecture: 3 hrs.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:
1.Demonstrate transcribing skills requiring concentration and listening skills by transcribing medical documents with 96% accuracy.*
2.Edit and proofread medical documents to conform to American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT) style guidelines with 96% accuracy.
3.Identify medical terms according to the context of the medical documents with 96% accuracy.
4.Research and write a 3-page report describing the overall employment environment, types of careers and future opportunities in the field of medical transcription.
* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
