OFT201 - Production Keyboarding

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: Prepares students to enter the workforce as valuable contributors to their organizations' growth. Includes business simulations using word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software. Continues speed-building techniques. Requires minimum level of proficiency of 55 words per minute Prerequisites: OFT101, OFT102, and CIS116.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

1.Key approximately 55 wpm for five minutes with 96% accuracy on at least three timed writings using timings to develop speed and accuracy.

2.Demonstrate the ability to utilize advanced formatting features such as customizing forms and creating and modifying queries on semester assignments using word processing and database software with 96% accuracy.

3.Demonstrate the ability to utilize advanced formatting features such as freezing panes, autofilter, advanced formulas, and applying visual elements and presentation formats, working with custom templates on semester assignments using spreadsheet, and presentation software with 96% accuracy.

4.Demonstrate advanced computer skills using word processing and presentation software by scoring a minimum of 70% on unit projects.***

Content Outline:
1.Production jobs are arranged in units and the student becomes a secretary in each specific division of the fictitious FIT FOR FUN COMPANY, a national marketer of sporting goods and fitness programs.

2.Thirty minutes of each class are devoted to speed and accuracy development. Drills and timed writings are used extensively.

3.Production work is completed in class (timed) and graded according to the chart shown on the next page.
