Criminal Justice Courses:
|CRJ222 - Field Studies in Criminal Justice|
Catalog Description: Presents independent and group studies of selected criminal justice agencies. Students are assigned to an agency based on career objectives to evaluate and reflect upon the theoretical and actual operational functions of the agency. Eight off campus hours and one and one-half on campus class hours. Prerequisite: CRJ101 and permission of instructor.
Lecture: 3 hrs.
Course Student Learning Outcomes (CSLOs):
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1.Explain the theoretical and actual operational functions of a criminal justice agency.
2.Describe the effectiveness of the host agency in providing public safety functions.
3.Observe and perform various tasks as assigned by the host agency in order to learn specified operational activities.
4.Explain the culture, perspectives, styles and ethics of various participants in the criminal justice system.
5.Analyze and reflect upon the field studies experience by articulating in writing, in classroom discussions and giving an oral presentation regarding student perceptions of the field studies course. *
6.Demonstrate communication skills appropriate to the criminal justice field by communicating information orally in an effective manner and presenting written information employing proper grammar, spelling and structure.
* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
