Writing for Stage and Screen
Introduces basic techniques of writing for the stage and screen, with emphasis on structure/development, storytelling through dialogue, dramatic action, characterization, and continuous revision through workshop process. Prerequisite: Completion of ESL/ENG 100 or by placement.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Express familiarity with examples of outstanding classic and contemporary one-act plays and feature-length screenplays.
2. Apply common (current) scriptwriting format or conventions.
3. Record observation exercises to develop story material.
4. Research or review a variety of literary resources for ideas for story creation.
5. Deliver informal oral and written assessments of others scripts-in-progress within workshop structure, with focus on specific elements (e.g. action analysis, foundations of plot, structure, character, idea, tempo, rhythm, mood, and style).
6. Compose a stage play or feature-length screenplay.
7. Create a unique character and story within the confines of a rigid screenplay structure.
8. Assess critically the potential audience impact of scripts written by others.
