Clinical Practice 2
Provides respiratory care clinical experiences at specialty sites such as hospital operating rooms, sleep medicine clinics, and pulmonary function testing areas. Applies cardiopulmonary assessment, critical thinking and respiratory care knowledge to adult patients. Requires demonstration of knowledge by completing a mock certification exam. Supervised respiratory care at adult critical care rotation sites. Prerequisite: RCP118 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Perform resuscitation techniques for a variety of patients experiencing various respiratory emergencies.
2. Utilize mechanical ventilators for patients experiencing respiratory insufficiency.
3. Perform transports within the hospital for mechanically ventilated patients.
4. Utilize patient assessment for weaning from mechanical ventilators.
5. Perform arterial blood gas collection
6. Analyze various arterial blood gas samples
7. Perform a variety of suction techniques for the mechanically ventilated patient.
