Provides rationale and delivery of airway management, bronchial hygiene therapy, hyperinflation therapy, humidity and aerosol medication procedures. Prerequisite or corequisite: BIO153 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher. Prerequisites: RCP101, RCPLB1 and RCP103 each with a grade of ‘C’ or higher. Corequisite: RCPLB2.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Select the appropriate aerosol delivery device for a given patient.
2. Describe therapeutic indications for aerosol or drug therapy as needed.
3. Match the appropriate humidification device to a particular patients need.
4. Differentiate among various artificial airways in terms of their use and placement.
5. Explain how complications or contraindications effect the treatment of patients using artificial airways.
6. Discuss the mechanisms for normal airway clearance, with attention to factors, which can impair their function.
7. Anatomical discuss the appropriate bronchial hygiene, given patient characteristics and patient preference.
8. Determine that contribute to the development of atelectasis.
9. Discuss the appropriate inhibition technique given patients characteristics.
10. Describe the conditions that indicate the need to.
11. Explain what hazards and contraindicate can arise when drawing an arterial blood gas.
