Athletic Training

Presents the foundation of athletic training. Studies contemporary principles and methods of conditioning, prevention, and first-aid care of injuries occurring in athletics. Introduces the fundamentals of taping and wrapping techniques, inspection and physical examination, and training room procedures.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify strategies to prevent athletic injury, illness or skin disease.
2. Identify the six domains defining the responsibilities of an athletic trainer.
3. Identify signs and symptoms of the common injuries sustained in athletics.
4. Identify the treatments for the common injuries sustained in athletics.
5. Identify the indications for therapeutic modalities (ice, heat, electronic muscle stimulation, ultrasound).
6. Identify the general principles of rehabilitation.
7. Demonstrate common taping/wrapping techniques used in athletics.
