PN to RN Transition 2
This course focuses on the care of medical-surgical and maternal-newborn patients for the LPN to RN student. Concepts related to nursing care of individuals experiencing temporary changes in health status are introduced, building on concepts introduced in NUR128. Emphasis is placed on clinical decision making, nursing judgment and prioritization of patient care to promote optimal wellness. This course provides classroom and online content as well as designated nursing laboratory activities. Advanced dosage calculation skills are included in the course. The course activities prepare the student for entry into the clinical sequence of second year nursing courses. Pre-requisites: NUR 128

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in dosage calculation and intravenous infusion calculations, by achieving a satisfactory score on the Medication Administration exam.
2. Analyze assessment findings and clinical data in relation to specific alterations in health and/or pathophysiology of specific health conditions and diseases/disorders.
3. Apply the nursing process and clinical judgment to the care of clients experiencing a short-term interruption in health status, including care of maternal-newborn clients.
4. Develop an individualized nursing plan of care for select clients using the nursing process framework and clinical judgment to achieve client outcomes.
5. Exhibit competency related to standards of infection control and patient safety in a health care setting.
6. Demonstrate proficiency in select nursing procedures and clinical judgment in simulated patient care activities in a supervised nursing laboratory setting.
