Family Crisis Intervention
Differentiate theories and apply models to examine healthy and unhealthy systems (individuals, family, and society). In particular, covers topics related to maltreatment, abuse, violence, and neglect within the family system. Reviews the multidisciplinary approach of human service agencies, law enforcement, and the legal system which either help or hinder client advocacy, empowerment and treatment.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Differentiate theories and models related to family systems.
2. Identify the various types of relationship dysfunction (maltreatment, abuse, violence, and neglect).
3. Describe the history of intervention related to family dysfunction (maltreatment, abuse, violence, and neglect) within systems (individual, family, society).
4. Explain characteristics of dysfunction (maltreatment, abuse, violence, and neglect) in various situations (domestic, dating, child, elder populations, etc.).
5. Explain child and elder abuse reporting and investigating procedures in New York State.
6. Explain the collaborative approach to address client need including advocacy, empowerment, treatment, investigation, and prosecution.
