Web Design and Implementation

Assuming a basic knowledge of HTML coding and web page design, this class moves into large-scale site development and an introduction to advanced web technologies. Building on the web page design concepts introduced in CIS113, this course focuses on site design issues, including scalability, maintenance, and integration of web technologies into the business or organizational context. Technologies introduced in this course include Perl, cascading style sheets, dynamic HTML, basic JavaScript, and streaming media. Each student will be required to purchase a domain name to create a website. Spring only. Prerequisite: CIS113.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Utilize a CMS (Content Management System) to create a business web page that includes e-commerce, Messaging and Calendar options.
2. Create a business contract template that can be applied to Web or Information Technology services offered by the student with variable criteria (deadlines, commitments by both client and business, comparisons to competing services, etc.)
3. Develop a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plan that includes all modern techniques from at least 2 search engines for a real or hypothetical website.
4. Create an aesthetic look and feel for a standalone or Content Management System (CMS) generated website (Using modern W3 standards for color schemes, web tools, HTML, CSS, etc.)
