PN to RN Transition 1

This course facilitates transition from the role of Practical Nurse to progression towards the role of Registered Professional Nurse. Concepts related to professional development, assessment, clinical decision making and care of individuals experiencing changes in health status are introduced. Emphasis is placed on nursing judgment and critical thinking. Classroom and online content are provided as well as designated nursing laboratory activities. Pre-requisites: Current LPN nursing license in good standing or documentation of scheduled licensure exam.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe a personal plan for successful role transition including strengths, challenges and goals for professional progression.
2. Demonstrate effective communication techniques to members of the healthcare team, including clients, to achieve client goals.
3. Correlate nursing assessment findings, disease pathophysiology and client clinical manifestations to establish a client plan of care for select clients.
4. Relate client laboratory test results, diagnostic test results and prescribed medications to pathophysiology in select clients.
5. Create a nursing plan of care for select clients, using the nursing process framework and clinical judgment to achieve client outcomes.
6. Utilize principles and strategies of teaching and learning to develop a teaching plan that advances client health, recovery, and management of illness.
7. Develop clinical decision-making skills associated with concepts and related diseases/disorders.
8. Exhibit clinical judgment related to patient rights and personal health information through application of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to client scenarios.
9. Demonstrate proficiency in select nursing procedures and clinical judgment in simulated patient care activities in a supervised nursing laboratory setting.
