Learning & Skill Development

The Medical Billing & Coding Micro-Credential is comprised of four courses: Medical Terminology (OFT116), Introduction to Health Insurance (OFT150), Medical Billing & Coding I and II (OFT 155 and OFT 255) taken part-time, online over 2 semesters.

Topics covered in these four courses include:

  • Medical terminology utilized in various health care situations
  • Students will understand the legal and ethical side of health insurance, types of health insurance, HIPPA guidelines, the health insurance claims process and reimbursement.
  • Procedure terminology and Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS)
  • Diagnostic coding with an emphasis on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) classification system.
  • Submitting insurance claims, as well as trouble-shooting rejected claims
