SUNY Genesee Community College 2022-23 Operating Plan
Subject to Change
Summary
2022-23 coursework is being conducted primarily through face-to-face instruction, with hybrid and online courses available as they traditionally have been. GCC continues to monitor the latest guidance from public health professionals and will update related protocols accordingly.
Admission to Campus
Campus employees, students, and visitors are not required to complete entrance screening, and all campus entrances are open for use. Out of an abundance of caution, any campus member who is exhibiting symptoms of being unwell is urged to stay home until such time that symptoms have subsided.
Vaccination Regulations
SUNY GCC strongly encourages all students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated.
Consistent with current guidance from SUNY, all students accessing GCC facilities in-person are required to be vaccinated with two doses of a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the single dose of a Johnson & Johnson vaccine. ACE students and students at clinical sites shall follow the protocols at the site where they are receiving instruction. Limited exemptions to this policy are listed below.
- Medical Exemption:Students may be exempt from this vaccine requirement if a duly licensed healthcare provider certifies in writing that the COVID-19 vaccination may be detrimental to the student’s health. This exemption shall also be available for international students who received a COVID-19 vaccine not authorized or approved by the FDA. Students granted a medical exemption are no longer required to participate in pooled testing.
- Religious Exemption:Students who hold religious beliefs which are contrary to COVID-19 vaccination may be exempt after submitting a written statement to that effect. Such statements should explain how receiving the COVID-19 vaccination conflicts with the student’s religious beliefs or practices. General philosophical or moral objections to such vaccine shall not suffice as the basis for a religious exemption. Students granted a religious exemption are no longer required to participate in pooled testing.
- Online or Fully Remote Exemption:Students whose course of study is fully remote may be exempted from this vaccine requirement. For this exemption to apply, the student must have no physical presence on campus nor reasonably anticipate using on-campus services for the entirety of the academic term. Such student must submit an attestation to the campus that states they understand they will not be allowed to use campus facilities unless they submit proof of vaccination as indicated above or are granted an exemption.
Documentation of exemptions should be sent to healthoffice@genesee.edu
Masking Regulations
Masks and face coverings are optional for all GCC community members in all public spaces on campus, including classrooms. Students participating in clinical placements or internships off-campus should continue to follow the guidelines of the host site.
Masks are available at Campus Safety for those who would like one.
Pooled Surveillance Testing
At this time, pooled surveillance is no longer required nor offered. Those in need of at-home tests should contact the Dean of Students Office.
Compliance
Students deemed not to be in compliance with COVID related protocols shall be referred to the Dean of Students Office for discipline, subject to the student code of conduct.
Campus Maintenance and Cleaning
GCC will continue its tradition of exceptional cleaning practices and will continue to stress the importance of hand washing. Our campus air handling and filtration systems adhere to COVID-19 air handling and filtration guidelines.
