Student Aide - Lab Assistant

  • Location: Student Resource Center
  • Reports to: SRC Coordinator
  • Pay Rate: minimum wage

Description of Position

  • Lab Assistants are to circulate in the SRC labs and assist students in their use of the hardware, software and audio/visual equipment. In addition, they are responsible for replacing paper and toner in the printers and ensuring that the facilities are kept in good order.
  • One Lab Assistant will be stationed at the SRC desk at all times to act as a receptionist. The receptionist serves as the initial point of contact for SRC students. In this role they greet students and answer the SRC phone.
  • Two other Lab Assistants will monitor the open lab T207 for hardware and software problems and student questions.
  • Hourly logs need to be completed by lab assistants throughout the labs operation.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Greet students when entering and exiting the SRC.
  • Answer questions regarding the SRC and associated facilities (open hours, hardware, software availability and location, etc.)
  • Assist student students in their use of the computer, video and audio equipment in the SRC labs.
  • Instruct students in the proper use of computer hardware and software.
  • Enforce GCC and SRC rules and policies.
  • Maintain the appearance of the SRC and associated facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Enjoy working with the public.
  • Familiar with Windows operation system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
  • Eager to expand computer knowledge.
  • Available at least 10 hours / week.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
