How do I log on to a computer at any of Genesee's campuses?

To logon to a workstation computer at any of Genesee's campuses, you must use your Genesee account that was created for you. These accounts are created by our administrative staff in August for a Fall semester or in January for a Spring semester.

Passwords are typically your birth date in the following format: MMDDYY

If your birthday is: January 15, 1984 your password will be: 011584
If your birthday is: December 4, 1975 your password will be: 120475

Your network account username is created out of your first and last name. The format for your username is the first initial of your first name and the first seven letters of your last name.

These usernames are not required to be case sensitive. That means you don't need to capitalize or lower case any of the letters in your username.

Examples:      
If your name is: Allison Dickinson your username will be: adickins
If your name is: Samuel Hadley your username will be: shadley

**Some exceptions to this standard rule will be if your name is similar or the same as another student of the college. For example, if your name is Robert Andrews, there may also be a student named Ryan Andrews. These two names may be named randrew1 and randrew2, respectively.

Examples:      
  Julie Van Dorn could be: jvandorn
  John Van Dorn could be: jvandor1

**Note how the seventh letter of the last name has been replaced with a number.

If you feel your name may be one of many with these similarities, you may try one of the number combinations or simply contact the HelpDesk at (585) 343-0055 ext. 6227 or online at online@genesee.edu and we will inform you of the proper format.

Please have student ID or Social Security number and birth date ready for verification. If you come in person, please bring picture ID. This can be student ID or driver's license.

Once you have successfully logged on to a campus computer for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password to something of your choice. This password is private to you and cannot be obtained by any of the staff at GCC. If you have forgotten your password, you must contact us to change it for you.

Username and password information will only be given out to the individual to whom the account belongs. This includes spouses, parents and significant others. There will be no exceptions!

 

How do I check my Genesee e-mail account?

Genesee email is located at http://mail.genesee.edu

You should get the following login screen (or something that's reasonably close to this):

Email Address

If your username is jdoe, then your email address is jdoe@genesee.edu -- put all of that in the Email Address line.

Password

This is your standard network / email password. If you need help with your password, contact the Help Desk.

Client

The "Premium" client gives you access to all the tools on Outlook Web Access. The "Basic" client is useful if you are on a slow dialup connection and simply need to read your email.

Security

Chose "Private computer" when you are working from home. The default is "Public" which will automatically log you out after 30 minutes. The "Private computer" setting will log you out after 12 hours.

How do I logon to my GenESIS account?

GenESIS is "Genesee's Electronic Services and Information System." Unless you're new for the Fall 2004 semester, you knew this as Pipeline. The two names will be used interchangeably for quite a while.

You can access GenESIS by going to either http://www.genesee.edu and click on the GenESIS link or go directly to GenESIS at http://genesis.genesee.edu.

  • Your GenESIS username is the same as your email/network login username.
  • Your initial password is your birthdate in mmddyy (6 digits) format.
