Batavia, NY- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Jeanette Blythe has been named April 2014 Employee of the Month. Jeanette is a financial clerk in the Business Office and has worked at the College for nine years.

“She is one of those employees who continually offers exceptional customer service to students and staff,” noted College administrators in naming her Employee of the Month. Jeanette’s main responsibility is making sure people get paid. She processes bi-weekly payrolls. “She has worked some late nights, under considerable pressure, to make sure that we all get our paychecks or direct deposits on time.” She also handles some invoicing and ACE online payments. Her dedication is commendable. During a March “snow day” she braved the elements, coming in to work to complete the payroll without complaint. Jeanette enjoys her work and the College, particularly “the variety of things always going on and the overall atmosphere and friendliness of the people.”

A native of Buffalo, Jeanette lived in the Silver Lake area for many years. For the past three years, she’s called Batavia home. She is married to Ron and has two sons, Nathan (Michelle) and Jeremy (Karrie) and four grandchildren, Trent, Sloane, Olivia and Griffen. Away from work, she enjoys reading and walking. But her favorite thing to do “is spending time with my grandchildren and all of their activities.”

Genesee Community College is also pleased to announce Kelly Wetherby has been named the April 2014 Student of the Month. A native of Allegany, NY, Kelly graduated from Allegany-Limestone High School in 2012. She chose GCC because of its outstanding Fashion Merchandising program, which she’s studying along with Event Planning.

Kelly, 20, has been a key player in the annual Spring Fashion Show, organized each year by the Fashion Merchandising students. For this year’s show “Ethereal,” she produced the final scene of wedding and formal attire entitled Ambience. Of her GCC experience she notes, “The professors I have had have truly cared about the students. They take the time to not only teach us the material but motivate us to continue learning outside of the classroom as well.”

Besides being an outstanding student, the College notes that “[Kelly] contributes in many ways to the greater college community. She was actively involved with the United Way campaign. She also works off campus and she does all of this while maintaining excellent grades.” Kelly was one of four GCC students recently recognized with a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.

Following her graduation from GCC, Kelly plans to continue her studies at Buffalo State for one year and then complete her senior year at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She dreams of one day being a wedding planner.

Kelly is the daughter of Dean and Deanna Wetherby.
