Background: Have you always wondered how to search your family history? Have you ever been interested in becoming a Notary Public? Genesee Community College will help you explore both interests with upcoming workshops at its Medina Campus Center.

Beginning Monday, March 17, 2014 professional genealogist Hollis Ricci-Canham begins Part I of a two-part Genealogy Workshop. Over the course of three Monday evenings, Holly will show participants how to find, evaluate, and document primary and secondary sources of information. She notes “No history is more interesting than your own family history.” Cost is $64.00.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2014 instructor Donald Read will demystify the office of notary public with explanations in plain English. Through this one night session from 5:30-9 p.m., commissioned notaries can improve their understanding of regulations and those interested in becoming notaries will know how to proceed the right way. To become a notary, you must be at least 18 years of age and be a New York resident or engage in business in the state. Cost is $34.

Part II of the Genealogy workshop begins on Monday April 7, 2014 and continues for three Monday evenings. Participants will learn the do’s and don’ts of conducting genealogy research online. The last session on April 21, 2014 will focus on uncovering the depth of military information available dating back to the Civil War. Cost is $64. This session precedes the Civil War Encampment at the Medina Campus Center on April 26-27, 2014.
