Save the Date for Ethereal - GCC’s 33rd Annual Celebration of Clothing Design and Merchandising
February 21, 2014
Batavia, NY- Forget spring, think Ethereal. What is e•the•re•al and how is it pronounced? Is it noun, verb or adjective? iˈTHi(ə)rēəl is an adjective defined as extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world, as in “ethereal beauty.”
Delve into the mystique of this beautiful word with its Latin origin at Genesee Community College’s 33rd Annual Fashion Show set for Saturday, April 26, 2014 featuring two complete shows at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. in the William W. Stuart Forum at the Batavia Campus.
The College’s Fashion Merchandising and Design students are deep inside the planning process for the fast-paced and professionally produced program. Since last semester, students have been developing themes for each of the more than ten scenes, contacting and contracting with outside vendors, and seeking as well as training more than 100 models for the show. The Fashion Design students are creating their very own clothing for the event, while merchandising students are collaborating with nationally acclaimed vendors – some making their way from New York City to make Ethereal unlike the rest. Guests will see the uniquely shaped runway hosting clothing from Buffalo David Bitton as well as many original designs some featuring fabrics all the way from Korea. Along with enjoying Ethereal, which is a capstone project for many GCC students, many guests will win door prizes and enjoy meeting the scene coordinators at the post-show after party in the cafeteria.
In addition to the Fashion Merchandising and Design students, Criminal Justice students will be providing security. Tourism and Hospitality Management students develop the exquisite after party and assist with the decorating, and GCC’s Communications and Media arts students will be promoting the event on WGCC. Finally, Digital Art students work alongside the Fashion Merchandising and Design students to create the Ethereal logo, brand and various promotional materials.
“The way our students from various departments come together to make this annual Fashion Show a huge success always impresses me,” GCC’s Business Professor Rick Dudkowski said. “This year’s program is coming together very nicely with some dynamic new features. We are all very excited to see the outcome of Ethereal on stage in just two months.”
The Ethereal sponsorship committee is still looking for support from the community. Business donations of $10 and personal patrons of $5 and all supporters are listed in the souvenir program and follow-up DVD copy of the show. Checks should be payable to GCCA. To schedule a time for pick up, make special arrangements for a donation or to purchase tickets, please contact Cheryl Young, 585-345-6830 or email email@example.com.
