GCC Warsaw Helps to Save Lives
January 23, 2014
Batavia, New York — Genesee Community College’s Warsaw Campus Center will host a blood drive from 10a.m. - 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in Room 308.
Together with UNYTS, the GCC Warsaw Campus Center invites donors to give the gift of life by donating blood. GCC’s Warsaw Campus is located at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw, New York.
To give blood for transfusion to another person, the donor must be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the last 8 weeks (since December 3, 2013). “Healthy” means that a person feels well and can perform normal activities. If a person has a chronic condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, “healthy” also means they are being treated and the condition is under control. In addition, there is a one-year waiting period to donate blood for those who have tattoos or body piercings.
UNYTS is a leading organ procurement non-profit serving the eight counties of Western New York. UNYTS reports that each donation of whole blood has the potential to save the lives of up to three patients. Donors can schedule an appointment to give by visiting www.unyts.org and click on the “Give Blood” icon and enter sponsor code 3012. They can also sign up at the Campus Center front office. Walk-ins are always welcome. Photo identification is required.
