Genesee Community College Updates Articulation Agreement with Medaille College
May 09, 2011
Administrators at Genesee Community College and Medaille College in Buffalo, NY signed an articulation agreement expanding the opportunity of effectively transferring associate degree credits earned at Genesee toward a bachelor’s degree from Medaille. With this updated agreement, courses and program requirements are scripted so that students can make a smooth transition to their desired baccalaureate program at Medaille.
Through an articulation agreement, students typically save thousands of dollars on their first two years of tuition, which at Genesee costs $140 per credit for New York state residents. In addition, if they choose to live at home they can also save on room and board. This savings allows students to concentrate more on a transfer school that fits their education needs and career goals, rather than how much that school will cost them.
With campuses in Buffalo, Amherst and Rochester, Medaille College (www.medaille.edu) is a dynamic, private college committed to serving the higher education needs of western New York. Medaille, like GCC, is known for flexible delivery systems, offering master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees through day, evening, weekend and online programs.
Medaille offers many programs that align well with Associate degrees from GCC like Accounting, Business Administration, Communication, Criminal Justice, Sport Management, Teacher Education and all three Liberal Arts transfer degrees, according to Transfer Coordinator Patrick Walter.
“Ultimately, the students benefit most from this transfer agreement because a lot of scholarship money is available to transfer students with Associate degrees and high GPAs,” Walter said.
“Not only will they have saved money by coming to GCC in the first place, but now they can use their degrees from Genesee to earn scholarship money to a private school like Medaille and know that their credits will make them a ‘full-blown’ junior once they get there,” he continued.
The articulation agreement enables students to move on to a private, four-year school and be fully prepared for the transition with credits transferring to give them the status of a junior. Upon successful completion of the outlined requirements in the agreement, students will be guaranteed admission to Medaille in their desired major.
Medaille College is an excellent transfer option for students attending classes at a variety of Genesee’s Campus Centers. Medaille is located about an hour away from the GCC Batavia Campus at 18 Agassiz Circle, Buffalo.
“Having prior knowledge of what is expected at a student’s desired transfer institution is invaluable to them because it helps save time and money when selecting courses to take here at Genesee,” said Walter.
