General Information:
The Library provides comprehensive services for eLearning and Campus Center students, including: online resources, virtual reference assistance, classroom and online instruction, and online request and delivery of library materials to Campus Centers. See Library Information for Campus Center and eLearning Students (PDF).
Access to Library Resources:
All Genesee students, faculty and staff must obtain a Genesee Community College (GCC) ID card. Your GCC ID card will have a barcode on the back, also known as your "800" number, and this barcode will work as your library card, allowing you to access your library account and to sign up for ILLiad Interlibrary Loan. In order to access the library's subscription databases, you will also need to know your network username and password. You will be provided with this information at the beginning of each semester. If you forget your network username and password, you may contact the helpdesk at 1-866-614-5004 Toll Free, and they will help you.
To get your GCC ID card, please read the directions below:
Campus Center students: Please visit your Campus Center office to obtain your ID card. Or visit the Batavia Campus Office of Student Activities (S115).
Directions for Remote or out-of-state Students: If you are an eLearning student who does not attend classes at a campus center or the Batavia campus and you live more than an hour's driving distance from a campus center or the Batavia campus, or are otherwise physically unable to visit a campus center or the Batavia campus, you may still use the library’s electronic resources and ILLiad Interlibrary Loan to receive electronic copies of articles.
You should receive your network account information by mail, and you can locate your GCC ID number by any of the following methods:
- Look at the one-page account information mailing you received. Your GCC ID number is shown on the front page in a box on the right side.
- Look at your receipt from paying your bill at the Business Office.
- Login to Genesis. Under the My Genesis tab click Personal Info, then click “What is my GCC ID?”

How do I find a book or article?
Books: Search the Campus Center Catalog. The library uses ILLiad Interlibrary Loan to deliver books, cds, audiobooks, and other physical material to the Campus Centers. Creating your ILLiad account is simple and will only take a minute or two. Click here to go to the ILLiad logon page and create your ILLiad account. Once you find something in the catalog that you would like to request, click on the Get It link, login to ILLiad or create your account, and complete the request.
Reserve Books: Instructors may place GCC library (or other) materials on reserve at the library or at your Campus Center. You may use these items at the library or center, but they cannot be checked out. Ask at the Library Circulation Desk or your Campus Center office for details.
Articles: Search the Databases A-Z list. If you see the word "text" or "full-text" next to the article on your results list, you can simply print it out. If it is not available in full-text, use the Get Full-Text link to see if it is available in full-text in any of the library's other databases. If it is not, you can order the article for free through the library's ILLiad Interlibrary Loan service. The article will be delivered electronically to your ILLiad account and you will receive instructions via your GCC email account as to how to access it. Electronically delivered articles will be available to you for 30 days only. We suggest that you print out or download your article when you first view it as a safeguard against losing access later.
Can I get library materials without coming to the Batavia campus?
Yes. All Faculty, Staff and GCC Students who do not attend classes at the main campus in Batavia can get books, articles and other materials sent to their nearest campus center. Articles will be delivered electronically to your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan account.
How long will it take to get my request filled?
If GCC owns the item: 2-4 days.
If GCC doesn't own the item: An average of 1-2 weeks for book loans and less than a week for article copies.
Is there a limit to the number of requests I can place?
In order to serve all of our patrons, there is a limit of 10 requests per course per semester per student for items that GCC doesn't own. There is no limit to the number of GCC-owned items that you can request.
How and where do I get my items?
Books and other materials:
We will only send books and other materials to your designated campus center. You designate your campus center when creating your ILLiad account. If you need to change this location after creating your account, click on Change User Information after logging in to the ILLiad system. Once you've made a request, you will be notified via GCC email when your item arrives.
No books or other materials will be sent to your home. We are not able to ship items elsewhere, so if you are too remote from a campus center to pick up materials, you will not be able to request books and other materials. (We suggest that you visit a library near your home to find materials. An academic library, such as a college or university, will probably have the kinds of materials you need.)
You are responsible for picking up these materials from the campus center and returning them to the campus center by their due date.
Articles:
Most articles will be delivered electronically via ILLiad. Regardless of how the article will be delivered, you will be notified via GCC email. Remember to check your email frequently if you are awaiting delivery of a requested item.
Electronically delivered articles will be available to you for 30 days only. So, you'll want to check your GCC email frequently. We suggest that you print out or download your article when you first view it as a safeguard against losing access later.
How long may I keep loaned books and audiovisual materials?

If GCC owns the item: Usually 3 weeks with renewals.
If GCC doesn't own the item: Usually 3 weeks with no renewals. You may, however, request a renewal for non-GCC items via ILLiad. Whether your renewal is granted depends on the lending policies of the library who owns the item. You will be notified via GCC email regarding the status of your renewal request.
If GCC owns the item: Most items can be renewed by calling the Circulation Desk at (585) 345-6834 during normal library hours. Many items can also be renewed online through the library catalog. From inside the catalog, click on Login to Your Account near the top of the screen. Enter your library barcode number from the back of your college ID or library card and click Log On. Then click View Your Account near the top of the page to view your account details; from there you will find options to renew your borrowed items. Items that are overdue by a week or more must be renewed in person in the library.
If GCC doesn't own the item: You can request a renewal via your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan account. Not all items are renewable. Video Tutorial: How to Renew an Item in ILLiad Interlibrary Loan
