PHO118 & SOC101 COIL Displays
March 27, 2017
Stop by to check out the Library's two COIL (COLLABORATIVE ONLINE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION) displays in the Media Room:
- SOC101: Students in Josephine Kearney’s Introductory Sociology class are learning about Lebanon and participating in an online module with Web Design students of Joseph El Gemayel from American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. The common goal is to internationalize both classrooms by encouraging intercultural collaboration. The students will be discussing “Digital Culture Across Borders.” Professors Kearney and El Gemayel are asking the students to examine the Internet and its impact on society. The “COILED” course will give students the opportunity to critically think and communicate about the positive and negative aspects of the internet world. The collaboration will give the students an opportunity to communicate with someone from another culture on topic areas that are relevant to all. The display includes Lebanon cultural pieces such as a silverware set and photographs from Josephine’s trip to Lebanon when she met and planned the project with El Gemayel.
- PHO118: “Crime Scene: The Exhibit” features work from Joe Ziolkowski’s PHO118 class where they created crime scene photos in collaboration with students from Professor Michael Bromby's Glasgow Caledonian University (Scotland) Criminal Justice class. The Glasgow students provided commentary on the evidence and usefulness of the photography as an investigative tool.
