Circulation & Reserve Services
| The GCC Library has a collection of approximately 78,000
books, software, CDs, Records, Cassettes and Audio Books and other materials
which circulate to library card holders.
Certain library materials are non-circulating and do not leave the library. These include reference books, periodicals, newspapers, microfilm and Reserve items. These may be photocopied. |
Loan Period for Students: Library materials may be checked out for a period of three weeks. See our complete library Loan Policies Items may be renewed twice unless
the material has been requested by another library patron. Renewals
may be requested at the Circulation Desk or by calling (585) 345-6834
during library hours. |
Library Barcodes All library materials must be charged out before they leave the library. Patrons need a barcode in order to check out materials. Student and employee IDs and community patron library cards contain a barcode and this is used to check out materials. GCC ID cards are issued at the Batvia Campus Office of Student Activities in room B104. Campus Center and Distance Learning students please see more information for Distance Learning students and staff. Do NOT allow others to use your ID/barcode, as you are responsible for any materials charged out to your card. Community patrons (anyone who is not a student or employee of the college) may fill out a short application to receive a library card. A driver's license and social security number are required. |
| Fines will be charged
on materials which are not returned by the due date. Fines are 10 cents
per day per item.Once an item is returned the fine will not increase. Overdue
notices will be mailed to borrowers 10 to 16 days after the due date. Notify
us if you move. Failure to receive a notice does not excuse a fine or the
obligation to return library materials.
Lost library materials are the borrower's responsibility. In addition to the replacement cost of an item, a fee of $5.00 will be charged to cover processing costs. Notify the library immediately if you lose any library item. Borrowers are also responsible for any damage done to materials in their possession. |
| The Library participates in the SUNY Open Access program which allows Genesee students and employees to borrow materials from libraries and other participating SUNY libraries. More information. |
| Instructors may place supplemental readings, articles, videos, textbooks, etc. on reserve for their students. These items are kept in a special section at the Circulation Desk. The materials are normally used only in the library to permit access by a large number of students. Printed materials may be photocopied. A student ID or driver's license is required to use reserve items. Electronic Reserves allows students to access electronic copies (in PDF format) of reserve materials online via their WebCT courses. In addition, the library also places some items on permanent reserve to ensure that they are always available for patron use. These items include: Consumer Reports (Annual and car-buying guides) |
