Do I need a GCC library card?
No, but you need a Genesee Community College ID card.
Your Genesee ID card will have a barcode on the back, and this barcode
will work as your "library card," allowing you to access library
materials and services. You can obtain an ID card at your Campus Center
office or at the Student Services office at the Batavia Campus. More
info on ID cards.

Can I get library materials without
coming to the Batavia campus?
Yes. All Faculty, Staff and GCC Students who don't attend classes at
the main campus in Batavia can get books, articles and other materials
sent to their nearest campus center.
Electronic delivery of articles in PDF format is also available for
most requests. If possible, all article requests will be delivered
electronically. Check your GCC email regularly if you are
awaiting receipt of a request. The email notification will provide you
with additional information regarding how to retrieve your requested
items.
All requests for items must be placed within GCC's ILLiad Interlibrary
Loan online service. You will need to create an ILLiad account
before you can place any requests. Creating your ILLiad account is simple
and will only take a minute or two. Click
here to go to the ILLiad logon page and create your ILLiad account.

How do I begin?
Search the library
catalog for books and/or search the periodical
databases for articles. Once you
find something you would like to request print out or copy down the
important information (author, title, publisher/periodical, pages (if
it's an article)), login or create your ILLiad
account, and click on the appropriate New Request link. If you are requesting
an article, make sure it's not already available to you as full-text
online. If you see the word "text" you can simply print it
out.

How and where do I get my items?
For Articles:
- Most articles will be delivered electronically via ILLiad.
Regardless of how the article will be delivered, you will be notified
via GCC email. Remeber to check your email frequently if you are awaiting
delivery of a requested item.
- Electronically delivered articles will be available to you for 30
days only. So, you'll want to check your GCC email frequently. We also
suggest you print out your article
when you first view it as a safeguard against losing access later.

For Books and other materials:
- We will only send books and other materials to your
designated campus center. You designate your campus
center when creating your ILLiad account. If you need to change this
location after creating your account, click on Change User Information
after logging in to the ILLiad system. Once you've made a request, you
will be notified via GCC email when your item arrives.
- No books or other materials will be sent to your home. We are not
able to ship items elsewhere, so if you are too remote
from a campus center to pick up materials, you will not be able to
request books and other materials. (We suggest that you visit a library
near your home to find materials. An academic library, such as a college
or university, will probably have the kinds of materials you need.)
- You are responsible for picking up these materials from the campus
center and returning them to the campus center by their due date.

How long may I keep loaned books and audiovisual
materials?
See complete library
loan policies
If GCC owns the item: Usually 3 weeks with renewals.
If GCC doesn't own the item: Usually 3 weeks with
no renewals. You may, however, request a renewal for non-GCC items via
ILLiad. Whether your renewal is granted depends on the lending policies
of the library who owns the item. You will be notified via GCC email
regarding the status of your renewal request.
Can I renew items?
Most items can be renewed by calling the Circulation Desk at (585)
345-6834 during normal library hours.
Many items can also be renewed online through the library
catalog. From inside the catalog, click on Login
to Your Account near the top of the screen. Enter your library
barcode number from the back of your college ID or library card and
click Log On. Then click View Your Account
near the top of the page to view your account details; from there you
will find options to renew your borrowed items. Items
that are overdue by a week or more must be renewed in person in the
library.
