Barry J. Garigen - Program Director
Associate
Professor Barry Garigen has over 32 years experience in the criminal justice
field, which includes, policing, courts, corrections and teaching. He is a full-time
faculty member and coordinates the Criminal Justice Program at Genesee Community
College.
Mr. Garigen served with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office for over twenty-four years holding various positions and retiring as the Undersheriff in 1996. While working with the Sheriff's Office he also served as an adjunct faculty member at Genesee for nearly twenty years. Professor Garigen received the State University of New York's Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2000.
Mr. Garigen has an Associate's Degree from Genesee; A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from SUNY Empire State College and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport.
Adjunct Faculty
Douglas C. Brooks
Doug Brooks started his law enforcement career as a park patrolman with the
NYS Park Police in 1973. He went in to work with the Amherst Police Department
for two years before becoming the chief of the Warsaw Police Department where
he served for nineteen years. In 1989, Mr. Brooks started teaching Criminal
Justice at the Batavia BOCES Center and continues instructing at the Mt. Morris
BOCES center. Mr. Brooks has served as an adjunct faculty member at Genesee
since 1997. Since 1987, Mr. Brooks has served as the director of Genesee's Rural
Police training Institute and also serves as the Village of Warsaw Justice.
Mr. Brooks has an A.A.S Degree in Criminal Justice from Erie Community College, a Bachelor's Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Buffalo State College and a Master's Degree in Education also from Buffalo State College.
Gary E. Churchill, Ed.D.
Gary Churchill has worked for the Genesee County Probation Department since
1967. He has served as a Probation Officer and since 1982 has held the position
of Probation Supervisor. Mr. Churchill has served as an adjunct faculty instructor
at Genesee since 1977 and also serves as an Instructor/Counselor for Genesee's
Drinking Driver Program.
Mr. Churchill has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from SUNY Buffalo, a Master's Degree in Community Services from the University of Rochester, and a Doctor of Education from SUNY Buffalo.
Edward J. Dinki
Edward Dinki is employed by Nicholas, Perot & Strauss P. C. He has also
served as a District Tax Attorney for the New York State Department of Taxation
and Finance and has is own private law practice. He is he past President of
the Clarence Rotary Club, past Chairman of the Town of Clarence Board of Ethics
and is an avid golfer, tennis player and biker.
Mr. Dinki has a Bachelor's Degree from Canisius College and a Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
Thomas G.Dryja
Tom Dryja retired from the Cheektowaga Police Department as an Administrative
Assistant and in 1978 started with the Department as a patrol officer. Since
1991, Mr. Dryja has also held the position of teacher of Criminal Justice at
the Harness Occupational Center in Cheektowaga, NY. Mr. Dryja is the State Chairman
for NYS High School Academic Olympics, a member of Erie One Professional Educators
Scholarship Committee, Harkness Public Relations Committee and a NYS Police
Department Accreditation Associate. He earned three Medals of Valor from the
Cheektowaga Police Department.
Mr. Dryja holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Buffalo State College and a Master's Degree also from Buffalo State College.
Kevin T. Finnel, Esq.
Kevin Finnel went into private practice in Batavia, NY in 1987 and since 1990
has served as an Assistant Attorney for the Genesee County District Attorney's
Office in Batavia, NY. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association,
Genesee County Bar Association, Member, Law Guardian Panel, Genesee and Orleans
Counties, Board of Directors, Genesee County Legal Assistance Corporation, Chairman
of the City of Batavia Zoning Board of Appeals and a member of Kiwanis International.
Mr. Finnel has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester and a Juris Doctoris from Hamiline University School of Law; St. Paul, Minnesota. He is admitted to the Practice of Law in New York and Minnesota.
Michelle A. Pietroboni
Michelle Pietroboni teaches currently is the Crime Victim Assistance Coordinator
- Orleans County District Attorney's Office. She is also a member of the
New York State Crime Victims Board Advisory Council and has served as a volunteer
at Attica and Albion Correctional Facilities She has also worked in the field
of domestic violence and as a rape crisis counselor. She is a religious education
teacher and enjoys family activities and fitness.
Ms. Pietroboni has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport and a Master's Degree in Public Administration also from SUNY Brockport.
Anne Marie Podalok
Anne Podalok has extensive experience in the security field including employment
as a security officer at Eastman Kodak. Since 1988 she has served as Genesee's
Environmental Safety/Security Officer and consults with the city of Rochester
Security Department. Anne has served as an adjunct faculty member at Genesee
since 1998. Ms. Podalak serves on the Genesee County Legal Assistance Board,
Rochester Council on Safety and Health, and City of Batavia Youth Baseball League.
Ms. Podalok has an Associates of Applied Science in Police Science from Genesee,
A bachelor's Degree in Security Administration from SUNY Brockport and working
towards her Master's Degree in Administration at SUNY Brockport.
Raymond C. Pipitone
Raymond Pipitone is a Patrol Supervisor for the University of Rochester Security
Services where he has been employed since 1977. Mr. Pipitone served as a Security
Policeman- Law Enforcement Specialist in the United States Air Force. He is
past Commander of the Wm. W. Doud American Legion Post, past Vice Commander
of Monroe County American Legion, Monroe County Officer of the 40 & 8 (The
American Legion Honor Society), Honor Guard and Color Guard and enjoys golfing,
football and gardening.
Mr. Pipitone has an Associates Degree in Police Science from Monroe Community
College, a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport and a Master's
Degree in Public Administration also from SUNY Brockport.
