Services

Video and DVD Production is arranged by appointment, for instructional or promotional productions. Studio and remote video services are done in cooperation with faculty and staff for promotions, orientations, guest presenters or special events. Call for assistance with project planning, scripting, production and post-production (editing) services. Media Services can also assist students with course-related video projects.

Conversion and Duplication is available. VHS and digital video can be converted to DVD and vice versa in support of college and/or instructional purposes. Audio CDs, cassettes, and LP's may be converted to CD or cassette. Multiple video and audio dubs can be made. Data CD's (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW) may also be duplicated. All media duplication must be permitted by copyright or license agreement.

Audio Production is for College faculty, staff and student recording, mixing, and duplication. A small recording/editing room allows for cassette and CD recording, mixing and editing.

Picture and Document Scanning is available. Photographs and documents may be scanned and saved as electronic documents, as permitted by copyright.

Television Reception and Downlink Service can provide instructional content off cable or satellite, with recording (per copyright guidelines) and/or live signal distribution to various campus locations. Call for current location information. Genesee also collaborates with Time Warner Cable in operating Educational Access Channel 15, on which distance learning courses are cablecast.

Video Wall Displays are located in the North and South lobbies of the Conable Technology Building. Faculty, staff, and student clubs (through Student Activities) may use video walls to advertise upcoming events via a PowerPoint slide show, display student work, play videotapes, or display special events / breaking news off cable television or satellite downlink.

Videoconferencing provides live, interactive point-to-point video connections between appropriately equipped locations. Media Services supports four distance learning classrooms and five portable videoconferencing units ("Teamstations"). Facilities and equipment are used in support of Genesee credit and noncredit classes, workforce development courses, interactive videoconference meetings, "virtual field trips," interviews, guest speakers, and other special events.

- Distance Learning Classrooms are multitasking environments that allow point-to-point or multipoint videoconferencing via ISDN (telephone network - only point-to-point), IP (Internet), or various Western New York fiber optic networks. These classrooms include a permanent instructor camera, student camera, PC, document camera, VCR and DVD player, and laptop computer (not supplied). All are controlled using a user-friendly Crestron touch panel and displayed by ceiling mounted projectors and large screen monitors. Local and distant sites can be recorded on VHS video tape.

- Distance Learning Classroom T219: This 26-seat classroom is located in the Conable Technology Center at GCC's Main Campus. It can connect to Genesee campus centers, other colleges, high schools or business locations, regionally and worldwide via ISDN, IP, or fiber optic.

- Distance Learning Classroom B303: This 24-seat classroom can connect to area high schools, BOCES centers and colleges throughout Western New York on various Western New York fiber optic networks.

- Distance Learning Classrooms at Warsaw Campus Center / YMCA and at Dansville Campus Centers: These 16-seat classroom can connect to all Genesee Community College locations, as well as other colleges, high schools or business locations, regionally and worldwide via point-to-point or multipoint IP (Internet) videoconferencing.

- Teamstations are portable videoconferencing units allow transmission via IP videoconferencing among Genesee's six campus locations, as well as other colleges, high schools or business locations, regionally and worldwide. Teamstation units are ideal for small group interaction. These rollabout units include a 29" monitor, video camera and PC. Document cameras can be added on request.

Instruction in use of videoconferencing classrooms and equipment is necessary and required. Please call Media Services to schedule user training, well in advance.

Other Services include Transparencies, projection pens, frames, write-on acetates and rolls. Students must provide their own thermal transparency sheets, which are available in the College bookstore. A FAX machine is available for College uses (sorry, no personal fax service). The fax number is 585.343.0433.

CD duplication, picture scanning, transparency and FAX services are available on a walk-in basis.
