Outstanding Scholar Award Requirements
I: Nomination
Each Advanced Studies school may nominate a maximum of three students in each of the five disciplines: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Foreign Language.
Criteria:
- A high school senior from an Advanced Studies school.
- Earned credit or is currently enrolled in a least 1 Advanced Studies course in the subject area for which they are nominated.
- Top 10% of graduating class or overall high school average of 90% or better. In addition, the student must have a 90% or better high school average in the specific subject area for which they are nominated.
- The school must submit the enclosed nomination form including signatures by the guidance counselor, instructor from nominated subject area, and the nominated student.
- A copy of the student's high school transcript and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT).
- The Deadline for submission of nominees: April 11, 2008.
II: Review of Nominees
Based on a review of nominated students by a selection committee, composed of GCC faculty and professional staff, a single candidate will be selected for each school in each discipline submitted. These students will comprise the semi-finalists for this award.
The selection committee will review the semi-finalists and select an outstanding student for each county in our service area in each of the five disciplines.
Semi-finalists and their families, teachers, counselors, principals, and superintendents will be invited to a reception at GCC in
May. At the reception, winners will be announced.
