Transfer Checklist

The first semester of your sophomore year, you should:

Fill out College Applications:

SUNY Colleges - Complete the SUNY Application online at http://www.suny.edu/student/, or contact the Career & Transfer Center for a hard copy. The $40 application fee is waived for up to four SUNY colleges if you will have your degree by the time you transfer.

Private Colleges - If you are applying to a private college, mail the application and fee directly to that college.

High School Information - Complete all the High School information, including the CEEB Code which can be found at http://www.suny.edu/student/search_colleges/college_search.cfm. SUNY Colleges usually will not require you to send a high school transcript. Private colleges usually require a high school transcript.

Complete a "Transcript Request" form for each college at the Records Office, 2nd Floor, Room C212. There is a $5 fee per transcript. GCC mails your official transcript directly to the four-year college. Reminder: Be sure to have a copy of your final transcript (with degree posted) mailed at the end of your final semester at GCC, to the college you plan to attend.

If you have attended another college(s), write to them and request an official transcript be mailed to each of your college choices.

Complete a "request form" at the GCC Health Office, 2nd Floor, B Section, to have your immunization records released free of charge. This document should be sent to the college you intend to deposit and attend.

Contact the colleges and request an interview or attend an Open House program. Although interviews are usually not required, they can be very beneficial to learn more about the college and the academic program that you are interested in.

Complete all federal and state financial aid forms if you are applying for financial assistance.

SUNY Guaranteed Transfer Program for AA/AS Graduates

GCC students completing and AA or AS degree prior to transfer are guaranteed access to a four-year SUNY college or university. In order to be eligible for the AA/AS Transfer Guarantee, applicants must complete the following steps by the dates indicated:

For Fall Admission For Spring Admission  
March 1 October 1 Deadline for AA/AS applicants to submit a SUNY Application to the SUNY Application Processing Center (APC)
March 15 October 15 Deadline for submitting your official two-year college transcript(s) to the SUNY four-year colleges(s) to which you applied, showing at least the equivalent of three semesters of completed study.
April 15 November 15 Supplemental application materials completed and returned to those colleges which require it.
May 1* December 1* Transfer applicants electing to avail themselves of the guaranteed admission program must notify SUNY Access Services through their toll-free number (800)342-3811


STUDENTS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS WELL BEFORE STIPULATED DEADLINES

*The Application processing Center (APC) will contact and inform students by April 15 for the fall semester and by November 15 for the spring semester of their eligibility for the Guaranteed Transfer Program, The APC will request each candidate to confirm their willingness to be considered for the Guaranteed Transfer Program by calling SUNY Access Services toll-free number prior to May 1 for fall admission and prior to December 1 for spring admission.
