Accreditation and Licensure
The Vet Tech program at GCC received accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities in September, 2012. Because we are a new program, the accreditation is an initial accreditation; the Committee will be back in the fall of 2017 to review our program again and we hope to earn Full Accreditation status at that time. New York and many other states require that you be licensed in order to be employed as a veterinary technician. In New York, this means that you must graduate from an AVMA accredited program and pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam. Our program will prepare you for both the hands-on skills that you will need in clinical practice as well as the didactic learning required for passing the VTNE.
