About Your Passwords
In general, passwords expire automatically every 180 days from the last change.
You will be required to change your Genesis password the first time you log in or any time the Help Desk resets your password for you. You can reset your own password by logging into Genesis and clicking on the "Profile" button in the upper right corner of the page. Enter your current password, then enter your new password twice and press "Save" and you're all set.
Students will be required to change their LIVE@Edu email passwords on first login. There is a set of questions to answer to help you in the future if you have password problems. Make sure you give an alternative email address (use your Yahoo or Hotmail account) for this process. There is a "Forgot Your Password?" process you can use if you are having problems logging in. If the "Forgot Your Password?" process does not work, then you can contact the Genesee Help Desk for assistance.
You can only change your network password when you are at a campus computer (i.e. at the Batavia campus or any campus center). To reset your password, log into a campus computer then press CTRL-ALT-DEL again. On that menu, there will be a button for "Change Password" and it will ask you to enter your current password and then enter a new password twice. Click "Save" and you're all set.
If you are not able to come to a campus, you can contact the Help Desk (585-343-0055 x6227), send an email to online@genesee.edu (with your full name and some identifying information like your GCC ID number or birthdate) or use the Technical Help Request form.
Creating Good Passwords
We all do it. Yes, you too, hiding in the back. You use passwords that are easy to remember and simple to type. Those of you who think you have a good password, well, very few of you do.
Microsoft has a Password Checker utility that you should try. It will tell you how 'strong' your password is (that is, how hard it is to guess) and gives some good advice on setting up good passwords that I'm not going to try to re-create. Check it out!
